Fixture block
25 fixture blocks, EN AW-6082-T6, 120 × 80 × 30 mm

1.0The request
A machine builder in Veldhoven needed 25 fixture blocks for an assembly line: one milled step, four dowel holes and a general ±0.10 mm on the title block.
“Quote 25 fixture blocks in 6082-T6. Envelope 120 × 80 × 30 mm. General dimensional request ±0.10 mm.”
- Left open
- The request gave the envelope and a general ±0.10 mm, but no pocket depth, datums or finish.
- Agreed before quoting
- Pocket geometry, datums, hole and thread details, finish, drawing revision, inspection and requested delivery.
2.0How the review settled it
- 1One reply
Milan listed what the request left open: pocket depth, the datum faces, hole and thread details, finish, revision and inspection.
- 2Datums and holes
The engineer marked the two datum faces and the dowel-hole positions on a PDF at revision A.
- 3Finish and inspection
As machined with broken edges; a dimensional report on the four dowel holes only.
- 4Quotation
The complete pack went to Bas for review, and the written quotation followed two business days later.

Both mills screened within, so the review only had to settle the drawing. The 25 blocks shipped as one batch with the hole report.

★★★★★
We sent a fixture plate with half the details missing. Milan came back the next morning with one list of questions, and the quote followed two days after we answered.

5.0Questions
Why did both mills screen within?
The block fits both envelopes, 6082-T6 is a listed grade and ±0.10 mm is looser than both metal ranges. Turning was outside because it screens round parts only.
Why ask for the datums if the screen passed?
The screen checks published ranges, never the drawing. Datums decide how the block is held and measured.
Could the batch grow later?
Yes. A repeat order starts from the accepted revision, material, fixture and inspection record.
