Stainless steel 316L

State the environment that led you to specify 316L.

1.0Who asks for it

For parts that see cleaning agents, moisture or outdoor exposure: covers, flanges, sensor housings and fittings. Tell us the environment that led you to 316L; we compare the drawing with the stock we can source, never the environment with a guarantee.

Three raw stainless round bars are stacked with their square-cut ends facing the camera.

A bead-textured stainless flange with a central bore and six drilled holes rests on porcelain.

6.0Questions we ask

  1. Which exact grade is required?
  2. What are the operating conditions?
  3. Which surface or inspection documents do you need?

7.0Worked RFQ

“Quote 40 flanges in stainless 316L, Ø90 × 12 mm, ±0.05 mm on the bore, passivated, with a 3.1 material certificate.”

Still to agree: Bore fit, bolt-hole positions, the passivation specification, the surfaces that matter and the date.

8.0Questions buyers ask

Is 316L corrosion-proof?

No grade is. 316L resists more chemicals than 304, but the result depends on the environment, the finish and the design. Name the exposure in your RFQ and we raise anything the drawing should settle.

Should I ask for passivation?

Passivation is a listed pairing with stainless steel, so the check marks it as a request that needs review. We confirm the specification and the partner who carries it out in the quotation.

Can I get a material certificate?

Ask for an EN 10204 3.1 certificate in the RFQ. It covers the stock, not the finished dimensions; a dimensional report covers those.

Can you machine 316 instead of 316L?

Choose Other in the check and name the exact grade. It goes to review, and we tell you what stock is available before quoting.
